High-density screens (Apple Retina, most phones) pack 2× or 3× the physical pixels into each CSS pixel. An image shown in a 720px-wide slot on a 2× screen is actually drawn across 1440 pixels — so to look sharp it needs roughly twice the width you'd expect.
The preview is sized to your display's density, so it shows real sharpness: as you reduce the width, the WebP side softens once it has fewer pixels than the area it's shown in. Pick a width around 2× the largest size the image will be displayed at on your site.

Upload the downloaded .webp to your server and make sure the src path points to where it actually lives — the snippet only fills in the file name.
Replace the alt text with a short description of what's in the image. Screen readers and search engines read it, so describe the content — don't just repeat the file name.
Every browser released since 2020 supports WebP, so the plain <img> is all most sites need. Only reach for the fallback if you must support pre-2020 browsers (Safari 13 and older, Internet Explorer).
